Today I join in an online devotional community called She Reads Truth. Why, you ask, would you join an online community to read the Bible?
The funny thing is, I usually don’t do this kind of stuff. I watched from afar for a month or so and what intrigued me was the notes. My friend Heather started sharing hers (see what I mean, look at those notes below!) which led me to the Instagram Feed.
Seeing their perspective, their heart, their creativity spilled out onto the page inspired me to change up my routine a bit. I was feeling a bit dry, like my routine needed to be spiced up. Colored up. This was it!
So I joined in one of the studies, only this time when I sat down with my Bible and journal, I also grabbed a pile of markers too. I was going to color and draw the beautiful moments of His Word, of His revelation in my quiet time. I had never seen anything like it, and I wanted to give it a try.
It felt kind of silly at first, coloring in the early hours of the morning. Taking the covers off those different colored markers and writing out His truth to me in shades of purple, orange and green. Slightly childish, but so fun. I don’t draw all that well, and I lack a bit in the creativity department, but I stuck with it.
Looking back over the last two weeks of notes, I am amazed at how the pages I colored still speak to me. Not lost in a pile of words on a page, I follow along with the truth I wrote down one morning and for some reason the colors, the boldness, the creativity, the imperfect beauty of my words and pictures that day says so much.
So I want to encourage you. Grab your markers, crayons, colored pencils and create with His words today. Draw a picture, write those truths in colors, grasp those revelations in boldness of print. Try it for a week or so. Then look back at your work. My guess is you will love it too.
You can join in the study here, and check out the Instagram Feed. It’s so cool!
Do you color, draw, create in your morning quiet time? If not, will you give it a try?
